Oakville community wraps up Culture Days

The curtain closed today on Oakville’s Culture Days festival after three weeks of arts programming.
Families from across Halton Region explored the installments on display at the Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre.
The supervisor of cultural programs for the Town of Oakville, Tonia Di Risio, said this is a really important event for the community to meet artists who spend their time thinking about the world.

The World of Threads exhibition is one of dozens of activities that took place on Saturday.
Fiber artists from around the world flew in to display their work, including Deborah Kruger, who is based in Mexico.
Kruger’s installment features nearly 30,000 pieces of recycled plastic, cut to look like feathers. It was not easy, or cheap, to transport, but it was important for her to attend.
“This is a very famous textile festival, probably the largest in North America, so it was a great honour to have my work accepted,” Kruger said.

So far, audiences have given the festival rave reviews.
“We’ve had fabulous feedback from everybody which is great. That every festival is different, but this is the best one that they’ve seen,” festival chair and curator, Dawne Rudman said.
The World of Threads Festival will stay on display until mid-December and admission is free.
