November ‘supermoon’ is especially super, according to NASA

The phenomenon knows as the ‘supermoon’ will reach its brightest in North America.

At 6:22 a.m. Monday the moon with be its most luminescent because it’s coming the closest it has come to earth since 1948.

Gazers will see a moon that is 14 per cent larger in diameter and 30 per cent brighter than when it’s at its farthest from earth.

Helga Bairos of Branchton said she was driving at dusk and couldn’t wait to get home to grab her camera. “It looked like I could reach out and touch it” said Bairos.

“The moon seemed mystical to me, once I saw my photos then I realized I saw the moon’s craters in two different views of the moon.”

NASA says this month’s moon is especially “super” because it is the only supermoon this years to be completely full and it is the closest it has been to earth in almost 70 years.

The moon won’t be this super again until 2034.
