Norfolk County approves, raises its operating budget for 2023

It’s going to cost more for residents to live in Norfolk County, as council raised its operating budget for 2023 on Wednesday.
The average Norfolk County household will now have to pay $112 more in 2023.
The county said in a news release, the revised net rate requirement is $24,653,200, an 11.5 per cent increase over 2022.
Property taxes in Norfolk County are rising 5.7 per cent, which translates to an annual hike of around $182 on the average residential bill.

“Overall, this budget increased reserve transfers and maintained progress toward improving Norfolk’s financial outlook, while also adding some strategic initiatives in order to meet community needs, and mitigate risk for taxpayers,” said Mayor Amy Martin.
“The final increase on the median residential home is less than the current rate of inflation and is in line with municipal comparators.”
The county will spend over $61 million in projects planned for the fiscal year.
