Simcoe residents had a close call when their house went up in flames causing about $200,000 in damages.
Norfolk County fire crews were called to a wooden, single storey house on 220 Maple St. at 6 p.m. last night.
When fire crews arrived the structure was fully engulfed in flames with smoke bursting out of the windows. The fire crews quickly knocked down the fire.
A man was in the basement apartment of the home and noticed the smoke and alerted both the man and woman living on the main floor. Everyone got out safely.
There were no smoke or carbon monoxide alarms on the main floor of the home and the residents were not insured.
Fire Safety Officers remind home owners that working smoke alarms save lives and help limit the damage caused by fire. They also suggest making an escape plan in case of an emergency.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation but is not considered suspicious.
