No virtual learning on Snow Days: HWDSB

The Hamilton-Wentworth District School board closes schools when road conditions are too poor for buses. They will now cancel in-person and remote learning.
The school board previously told families that online learning on snow days would be happening “where possible.”
They received backlash.
Parents and teachers unions argued that not everyone has access to devices and the internet.
Many teachers have children of their own and therefore would have to stay home with them.
Some teachers work out of the school on regular school days, making it difficult to teach an online lesson without access to the building.
Pre-COVID schools combined classes on days where fewer teachers and students were present, but with cohorts, that’s no longer possible.
The same rules apply for the District School Board of Niagara and the Halton District School Board. if schools are closed, there will be no online learning.
The Grand Erie District School Board however is moving forward with remote learning should there be a snow day.
