No more extracurricular activities

1.3 million public elementary school students in Ontario no longer have any extracurricular activities due to the Teachers Union’s next phase in its work-to-rule campaign.

Parents had to explain to their children why they would not have school sports for the foreseeable future. Some parents are taking matters into their own hands by letting their kids practice or train at home, before or after school.

Due to an earlier phase of the work-to-rule, where teachers did not collect or hand out paperwork, some students have been without sports teams since the beginning of the year. And it’s not just sports, school clubs are also being postponed.

The issue had NDP Lisa Gretzky questioning Liz Sandals’ capabilities as Education Minister at Queen’s Park. But Premier Kathleen Wynne was quick to defend Sandals.

The Teachers’ Union tells CHCH that they have been meeting with the province everyday in Toronto since Sunday.
