Niagara West voters can start casting their ballots Saturday in advance of November 17th by-election.
NDP candidate and former chief of Hamilton’s police union Mike Thomas says he’s knocked on over a thousand doors.
“Privatization of Hydro One, that’s probably been the number one issue that I have been hearing at the door and it has resonated from the east to the west tip of this entire riding.”
The riding, which represents over 120 000 voters was vacated by Tim Hudak last month and combines parts of Stoney Creek, Niagara Centre, Lincoln and Hamilton mountain. It’s been a Conservative riding since it was created in 2007.
19-year-old Sam Oosterhoof surprised many when he defeated former MP Rick Dykstra in the nominations. “They seemed to worried about hydro prices, their lack of accountability at Queen’s Park.”
PC party leader Patrick Brown has been accused of muzzling Oosterhoof’s social conservative platform. He’s been critical of the Liberal’s new sex-ed curriculum.
Vicky Ringuette, who works as a family lawyer in Hamilton says it keeps kids safe.
“Had they had healthy relationships taught to them in the schools, they wouldn’t be in circumstances where they need a lawyer to represent them, they wouldn’t have the Children’s Aid Society involved in their families.”
Advance polls are open Saturday morning at 10.
