Niagara Staycation

Elise Copps has the last installment of her “Staycation” series tonight with a look at the Niagara Region.
Niagara has many hidden gems waiting to be discovered. From a beachside ride in Port Colborne, to testing your strength and balance at Flyboard Niagara in Jordan Station. Or a bike ride through beautiful Niagara On The Lake with Zoom Leisure Bikes.
It’s known for it’s wine and waterfalls but there’s so much more to see and explore. We’re showing you some lesser known options to include in your summer staycation.
Start your day with a splash on a beachside ride in Port Colborne. For views that rival the Caribbean, Horseplay Niagara will take you through the woods, into the water and across sandy beaches.
“All of our group rides are easy for anyone to do. And then we offer more advanced rides for people that want to do a little bit of galloping” says Horseplay Niagara’s Kathy Buttigieg.
After a gallop along the shore, you’ll be ready to cool off. So it’s on to Flyboard Niagara in Jordan Station to test your strength, balance and perserverence.
It can take time to master but with help from a patient coach and the jet ski’s powerful stream, you’ll be flying in no time. You can hover up to forty feet above the water, or sit back and watch a show from the pros.
Back on solid ground, it’s off to wine county with Zoom Leisure Bikes. Cycling is the perfect way to soak up the beauty of Niagara on the Lake.
“The scenery is great. It’s the old town. It can be the orchards, could be the vineyards, country roads or the Niagara trailways” says Mark Gaudet from Zoom Leisure Bikes.
Their tours will take you to private tastings at vineyards, or drop you at one of Niagara’s craft breweries for a refreshing pint.
After a bit of liquid courage, you’ll be ready to brave a Fort George Ghost tour.
Inside the locked barracks, you’ll listen to tales of haunting at the fort. And learn the darker side of the War of 1812.
After a full day of action in the Niagara Region, you’ll probably be too tired to have nightmares.
