Niagara SPCA and Humane Society is caring for two underweight dogs after they were found covered in urine and feces in open crates near Firemens Park.

Executive Director John Greer says only two dogs were found despite there being a third crate in the same area near Dorchester Rd. in Niagara Falls.

Animal Services rescued the dogs and brought them to the SPCA shelter to be cleaned and assessed by medical staff.

Greer says the male Sheltie-type dog is social, active and “very quickly warming up to shelter staff.”

He says the female Wire Coat Terrier is more lethargic and remains under observation.

“She was unable to stand on her own during the extensive bathing she required,” Greer said in a press release Wednesday.

The recovered crates were full of fur, urine, feces and were attracting flies, Greer added.

Exactly how long the dogs were in the area remains undetermined.
