Niagara Region to do pedestrian count near West Niagara Secondary School

Niagara Region will be conducting a pedestrian count and exploring the need for a protected pedestrian crossing in the area of West Niagara Secondary School that opened last month.
The decision was made in response to an increase in vehicle and pedestrian traffic near the school on King Street in Lincoln.
“Region staff have been observing traffic throughout September to gain information about the changing patterns and assess driver and pedestrian behaviour, especially during the busy school drop-off and pick-up times,” said Janet Rose, a spokesperson for the regional government.

Niagara Region says it gathered the information needed to move forward with a pedestrian count and a “warrant process” for a potential protected pedestrian crossing.
It expects to complete the count by the end of this month and will share any updates.
Additionally, the regional government says road re-design options to optimize traffic and reduce congestion near the high school will also be considered as part of King Street’s future reconstruction planned for late this year or early 2025.
