Niagara region is reporting multiple COVID outbreaks in long term care homes including Extendicare in St. Catharines

The province is recording 89 new deaths today, the most reported in a single day since the start of the pandemic. There have been at least 326 covid deaths in Ontario since the beginning of this month. 874 deaths were reported during the entire month of December. The majority of those deaths continue to be in long-term-care homes. While not considered a hotspot, Niagara region is reporting 26 outbreaks across its long-term care homes. Private LTC Extendicare in St. Catharines is reporting 63 active cases among residents, 53 staff are sick and 18 residents have died. Phil Perkins reports.
