Niagara police taser man following altercation with officers

Niagara police have arrested a 39-year-old man after he allegedly became “combative” with police.
Police were called to the area of Niagara St. and 6th St. in Welland around 4:20 p.m. Sunday for reports of a suspected impaired driver.
Officers located a man in the driver’s seat of a parked vehicle and attempted to place him under arrest.
Police say the man became combative and the man was subsequently tased by police during the altercation.
He was taken to hospital with minor injuries, along with a police officer who was also hurt.
Jason Baldwin, of Welland, has been charged with assault with intent to resist arrest, assault peace officer, disarm peace officer, and disobey order of the court.
He has been released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.
