Niagara police seek witnesses to Niagara on the Lake hit-and-run

Niagara police are asking for witnesses to come forward following a hit-and-run in Niagara on the Lake on July 13 that left an 84-year-old cyclist in serious condition.

Police say that an 84-year-old male cyclist was struck by a vehicle around 7:50 p.m. on July 13 and was taken to hospital in serious but stable condition.

The cyclist was found laying in the ditch on East West Ln. by officers patrolling the area. Police believe the man was struck from behind while he was riding his bike westbound on the north side of East West Ln., between Niagara Rd. and Concession 2 Rd.

Investigators located and seized the pewter coloured 1999 GMC Sierra pickup truck involved in the collision in Niagara Falls on Wednesday.

They note that the damaged areas of the truck had recently undergone repair and used GMC auto parts had been used during the repairs, including a grill, headlights on the passenger side and a towing side view mirror also on the passenger side.

Investigation has revealed that after striking the victim the driver of the pickup truck fled, turning southbound on Concession Rd. 2 and then traveling to York Rd. where it would turn west into St. David’s.

Once in St. David’s, the truck turned southbound onto Four Mile Creek Rd. and into the City of Niagara Falls.

The driver of the pickup truck has not been identified and no arrests have been made.

Police are asking for all auto part recycling businesses or wreck yards in the Niagara area to report any suspicious sales of used GMC auto parts and any auto body repair shops in the area to report repairs to a pewter coloured 1999 GMC pick up truck since July 13.

Additionally detectives ask that any home or business-owners along the route the GMC truck traveled review any security footage for sightings of the GMC pickup truck between 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. on July 13.
