Niagara police issue tickets after crossing guard gets hit by truck

Niagara police have issued tickets after a crossing guard in St. Catharines was hit by a truck on Tuesday.

Emergency crews responded shortly before 3:30 p.m. to the intersection of Carlton and Haig streets for reports of a serious crash involving a pedestrian.

They arrived at the scene to find the 79-year-old crossing guard suffering from a head injury. She was taken to an out-of-region hospital.

Police say the crossing guard was seriously injured but there doesn’t appear to be a threat to her life.

Officers took conducted traffic stops on Wednesday, handing out two tickets and two written warnings for speeding and stop sign offences.

They also note that one school employee was issued a warning for a stop sign offence in front on their own school.
