UPDATE

Niagara Regional Police Service (NRPS) says a body pulled from Lake Ontario on Thursday has been identified as a missing Grimsby man.

The body of 46-year-old David Martens was found near Sandy Cove Dr. in Lincoln around 4:39 p.m.

A post-mortem was conducted Friday and confirmed his identity.

Martens was last seen around 3 p.m. Saturday near the kayak rental at Beacon Harbour in Jordan Station.

Detectives believed he may have rented some type of watercraft like a kayak or paddleboard before he went missing.

The NRPS Marine Underwater Search and Recovery Unit and the Canadian Coast Guard searched the waterways with planes, vessels, helicopters, and underwater sonar but did not locate him.

Earlier this week, investigators asked residents in the Greater Toronto Area to be on the lookout for unoccupied kayaks or paddleboards near shore or on the shoreline of Lake Ontario.

Police say the circumstances around Martens’ death remain under investigation, however, foul play is not suspected.

Anyone with information that could help investigators is asked to contact Niagara police.
