Niagara police grieving loss of sergeant after sudden death in Welland

Niagara police are mourning the loss of their own Staff Sgt. Romolo Di Egidio.

Chief Bryan MacCulloch issued a statement Thursday saying Di Egidio died suddenly on Wednesday.

The chief is asking for people to respect the privacy of the family.

Niagara police confirmed to CHCH News that Di Egidio was found dead at the Merritt Island Trail in Welland Wednesday morning.

Officers said foul play is not suspected following their investigation of the sudden death.
