Niagara police say eight people in Welland have been charged a gathering that broke public health orders.

Police were called about a gathering at a home in the area of Cozy St. and Duncan St. around 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday. Officers arrived and saw multiple people inside.

Eight people ranging from 28 years old to 52 years old, are facing charges under the Reopening Ontario Act. They were each fined $880.

Provincial restrictions do not allow for indoor gatherings between people who live in different homes, with exceptions for those who live alone.
