St Catharines man allegedly tries to rundown teens

Niagara police have arrested a St Catharines man and charged him with assault with a weapon, uttering death threats and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle after they say he confronted a group of kids, revved his engine, and eventually grabbed one of the teenagers by their shirt. The teen managed to escape the man’s hold and began running.
Police have said the man had accused the teens of trespassing on his property. They say the driver then chased down the teens driving over grass, gardens, stones and ditches narrowly missing them.
It happened near the Niagara Olympic Club Track the sports teams practicing heard the commotion and called 911. The driver then took off to 60 Powerview Avenue parked his vehicle and fled to his nearby home.
Police said negotiators and members of the tactical unit were called to mediate a surrender. The man eventually came outside and was arrested.
He has been identified as 53 year old Gene Carter of St Catharines.
