Niagara police arrest 35-year-old man wielding gun in Welland

Niagara police have arrested a 35-year-old man after he barricaded himself inside a house in Welland with a gun.

Niagara police say the accused was holding a rifle while he argued with two people at a residence in the area of Alberta Street and Avon Street.

He reportedly refused to put the gun down when asked, and one person he was arguing with even tried to grab the gun but was unsuccessful.

The 35-year-old man then uttered threats and barricaded himself inside the residence.

Officers made contact with the man and were able to remove him from the home and place him under arrest.

Jason Azotoni, 35, of Welland is charged with possession of a weapon and uttering threats, and is expected to appear in video bail court at a later date.
