Niagara Icewine Festival goes down easy with crowds

Wine lovers bundled up Saturday to enjoy some of Niagara’s “liquid gold.”
The annual Niagara Ice Wine Festival kicked off this weekend and as expected, the cold didn’t keep anyone away.
The chilly weather was perfect for the festivities, now celebrating their 20th anniversary.
Many saw it as the perfect chance to escape the house as they bundled up at the outdoor ice village in Jordan.
Two years ago in was 14 degrees at the Festival and the ice sculptures were melting.
This year marks the coldest festival they’ve had in recent memory.
People offered their tips on how to beat the frigid air like multiple layers, long underwear and yes, a glass or two of wine.
Last week’s dropping digits means many wineries have already harvested their icewine grapes
The grapes can be picked once the temperature drops to at least minus 8 degrees but they have to be pressed right away
The Niagara Icewine Festival continues Fri-Sun until January 25th.
