Niagara hospital says sorry

Hospital promises action will be taken to prevent any more ”poor judgment”.
The supervisor of Greater Niagara General Hospital says ”our quality of caring missed the mark”, last month when some employees let an 82-year-old woman lay on the hospital floor at least 20 minutes waiting for help after breaking her hip.

Doreen Wallace fell in the hospital lobby and broke her hip October 8th. She was leaving the hospital after visiting her dying husband.

Some staff believed only paramedics were allowed to bring her into emergency, so hospital staff called 911 while she lay on the floor.

Kevin Smith would not say whether employees have been disciplined, but noted “human resource policies have been followed” with respect to certain individuals and an apology has been made to the Wallace family.
