Niagara home sales soaring

There’s been a lot of talk about the price of homes in the Hamilton market but the prices in the Niagara market may surprise you.
Aleta Baldwin says she is feeling right at home since moving to Fort Erie from the hustle and bustle of the GTA. She sold her Brampton home for three and a quarter million dollars. Her new home was about half the price. It’s that affordability that has attracted people from the GTA to the Niagara area.
Patrick Dummitt, President of the Niagara Association of Realtors, says house prices have soared 14% over the last year. He says with a low inventory of homes for sale this spring, it’s been a seller’s market.
According to the Canadian Real Estate Association sales in Niagara home sales soaring jumped more than 22%. With the average home in neighbouring Hamilton and Burlington priced at over half a million dollars, cities like Niagara Falls are feeling the heat.
Mayor Jim Diodati says that about 70% of the people buying homes are from outside Niagara and with the potential of adding all day GO train service to the region, Diodati says Niagara will be that more appealing.
