Niagara Parks Police and Niagara Falls firefighters were performing a rescue in the Niagara gorge this morning. But it was all part of a training session at the Niagara Glen staircase.

A new device called the Glen rescue arm can hoist injured people up in a rescue basket from the bottom of the gorge. until now they had to carry people up the staircase or haul them up the side of the gorge.

The arm will get people to safety faster and will reduce the risk of injury to rescuers. It can hoist a person weighing up to 300 pounds and carry more than 600 pounds of equipment.

The Niagara Glen is a popular hiking trail where people often fall and are injured.
