Across Niagara region they’re still tallying up the storm damage.

A section of Sulphur Springs Drive in Pelham was washed out Wednesday night when water came pouring down. Thirty-four millimetres of rain fell in just 30 minutes. The s-bend section of the road just crumbled into 12 mile creek. it washed away silt and carried debris downstream. Neighbour Paula Diamond says she’s never seen anything like it: “It blew my mind away you know. Last year I had been into the town to specify certain areas of the creek that were getting too close to the road because of erosions. And I pinpoint it to them and so they were supposed to be aware. But something like this you can’t dictate.”

Forty Mile creek in Grimsby was raging Friday morning. There was so much water coming down the escarpment it looked like the Niagara river rapids. The Niagara Conservation Authority says in 72 hours up to 80 millimetres of rain has soaked some areas — with another 35 millimetres expected to fall by Saturday afternoon. People
are being warned to stay away from creeks and streams.
