Niagara Falls feeling frustrated over casino compensation

Updated Don’t you dare stack the deck in favour of a Toronto casino.

That warning today from premier Kathleen Wynne to Ontario Lottery and Gaming chair Paul Godfrey. It came after earlier reports suggested the OLG would offer Toronto a $100 million sweetheart deal to set up a casino in the big smoke.

The premier was asked about it in the legislature today and responded, saying her message to the OLG is crystal clear: “Having a fair process across the province making sure that municipalities could decide where whether or where they wanted a casino has been my position from the beginning.”

“I asked for a meeting with OLG, I made it clear that my understanding that there would be a fair process across the province, that the same formula would be applied evenly across the province that has been my position. The OLG is now crystal clear that that is my position; they have gone back to review that formula and make sure that it is so.”

Despite the premier’s comments, just the possibility of a special deal for Toronto is frustrating Niagara Falls politicans. Lauran Sabourin has their reaction.
