The case of a Niagara police officer who is charged with attempted murder has been put over until May.

Shane Donovan, a 20-year veteran of the Niagara Regional Police Service, is accused of shooting another officer on Nov. 29, 2018.

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) says the officers were in the area of Effingham St. and Roland Rd. in Pelham to investigate a collision that had happened a few days prior.

According to the police watchdog, an altercation broke out between the colleagues and Donovan shot his firearm multiple times.

Fifty-two-year-old Nathan Parker was airlifted to Hamilton General hospital with serious injuries to his face, leg, foot and shoulder.

Donovan did not appear in court Thursday morning but a lawyer appeared on his behalf. He is also facing charges of aggravated assault and assault with a weapon.
