According to the Toronto Star, newly-elected MPP Sam Oosterhoff says that if he’d been able to vote on Bill 28 -legislation on gay rights- he would quote “definitely not have supported it.”

The Liberals say the Progressive Conservatives delayed the swearing in ceremony for the Niagara West-Glanbrook MPP to avoid a vote on the bill. But yesterday, PC leader Patrick Brown said that wasn’t the case, and said he expected his caucus to vote in favour of the bill.

Twelve Tory MPP’s were absent for the vote- including some who were in Question Period just prior to it. Nonetheless, Bill 28, also known as “the all families are equal act” did pass today. It’s intended to make it easier for gay and lesbian couples to have children, because they’ll no longer have to adopt their own kids.

As for Oosterhoff, he’s expected to be sworn in tomorrow morning.
