NewLeaf grounded

The new Canadian discount airline that launched here in Hamilton just a couple weeks ago is grounded.

Newleaf Travel has postponed it’s service, which was expected to begin operations in February, while they wait to hear back from the Canadian Transportation Agency on licensing. The CTA is currently reviewing the licensing requirements for all indirect air service carriers. They must decide whether companies who don’t operate any aircraft, but market and sell air services to the public, should be required to hold a licence directly.

The travel company’s CEO says the airline will resume taking reservations in the spring, but will refund all credit card charges for flights in February so customers can make other travel plans.
