New Year’s Eve at the Harbourfront: plan ahead say Toronto police

Plan ahead. That’s the advice to the public from Toronto police for the City’s New Year’s Eve celebration in the Harbourfront area.
The City of Toronto event will start at 11:45 p.m. Dec. 31 and finish at 1 a.m. The fireworks’ display is set to last 10 minutes.
Toronto police advise the following:
- Plan your ride by having a designated driver or use public transit or a ride-share service.
- Dress according to weather conditions, stay with your group and have a plan with your children should you get separated.
- Be patient and give yourself lots of time to travel around the downtown area; expect large crowds and busy streets.
The eastbound lanes of Queens Quay West between Bathurst Street and Lower Sherbourne Street will be closed from 10 p.m. New Year’s Eve to 2 a.m. on Jan. 1 for vehicular traffic.
If required, additional road closures and diversions will impact streets south of Lake Shore Boulevard West and around Union Station.
Motorists are advised to avoid area and consider alternate routes.
There will also be diversions implemented with the TTC and Metrolinx in the downtown core area.
