New Year’s Day 2024 babies in Hamilton, Halton, Niagara

The new year began with celebrations and tears of joy for some families in our area. Hospitals were scrambling, as New Year’s babies arrived for 2024.

Meet some of the cutest new residents of Hamilton, Halton, Niagara.

Not long after the new year arrived, at 12:45 in the morning, Olivia Ferguson was born in St. Catharines.

The first baby of the year in the Niagara health system, weighing seven pounds 15 ounces.

“We think she’s perfect and we think she kind of stole the show coming on New Year’s and we’re very happy to finally meet her,” the baby’s mother, Meagan Ferguson said.

Olivia’s father, Michael Ferguson said they are overjoyed to have a girl in the family.

My mom in particular, she wanted a girl in the family. She bursted out in tears over it so everyone’s just overjoyed,” Ferguson said.

While Olivia was born on New Year’s day, her three-year-old brother Travis celebrates his birthday on Christmas Day.

“I feel like having her on New Year’s Day is a sign of good luck for the family and good health to come for the new year for us,” Meagan said.

In Hamilton, Mila Reiser arrived at 1:33 in the morning, weighing seven pounds nine ounces– the year’s first baby at St. Joseph’s Healthcare.

Mila’s father Wojtek Reiser says she’s the best thing that’s ever happened.

Mom and Dad and extended families are thrilled.

“I see nothing but potential in her. I see her and she could become anything you know what I mean, she’s just precious,” Wojtek said.

In Burlington, Luca Marino was the first baby of the new year at Joseph Brant hospital, born just after 5 a.m., weighing seven pounds six ounces.

And at Brampton Civic Hospital, baby Kaur was born on the stroke of midnight to start 2024.
