New website looks at Hamilton’s past, present and future

Hamilton civic museums have launched a new digital storytelling website that takes a deep dive down memory lane.
Hamilton 175 was created in commemoration of the 175th anniversary of Hamilton’s founding.
It features an expandable timeline that highlights the city’s past, present and future with content crowdsourced from the community.
The city says the website will grow to a virtual platform for all Hamilton communities to preserve and share their heritage, histories, and narratives.
The site currently hosts seven exhibits including “Points of Pride” which aims to pay homage to the rich 2SLBGTQ+ heritage in Hamilton, and create a sense of continuity and connection among its many communities; “Stories of Migration and Belonging” which includes unique personal stories of immigration that often include both inclusion and exclusion; and “Struggle and Survival” which features the story of how Hamilton experienced epidemics in the 19th and 20th Centuries.
The city says this is the first step in developing a virtual Museum of Hamilton to complement the existing Hamilton Civic Museum websites.
Officials hope the site will preserve and present the many untold stories of Hamilton and Hamiltonians.
