It’s been a while since we’ve seen Bryan Cranston chew up a good role. Breaking Bad ended two years ago, and while he was featured prominently in its marketing, his role in Godzilla didn’t amount to much more than a cameo appearance. Now Cranston looks to be entering the Oscar race with his new film Trumbo, which chronicles the life of Spartacus screenwriter Dalton Trumbo.

The successful career of 1940s screenwriter Dalton Trumbo (Bryan Cranston) comes to a crushing end when he and other Hollywood figures are blacklisted for their political beliefs. TRUMBO (directed by Jay Roach) tells the story of his fight against the U.S. government and studio bosses in a war over words and freedom, which entangled everyone in Hollywood from Hedda Hopper (Helen Mirren) and John Wayne to Kirk Douglas and Otto Preminger.

Directed by Jay Roach, Trumbo will screen in the Special Presentations section of the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival before its theatrical release on November 6.
