Toronto’s new police chief was sworn into office today, and said he’ll demand that his officers win public trust.
Chief Mark Saunders is 52. He was born in England to a Jamaican family and moved to Canada as a child, growing up in Milton.
Saunders promised to hold the police service to exacting standards on costs and community relations. “Every interaction with every member of the community & we have millions a year, collectively define how the Toronto police service is seen by the community.”
“They determine if people are willing to support us, work with us, and help us achieve the city is safe.”
Saunders also promised to go to great lengths to reorganize the force to save the city money. He is Toronto’s first black police chief.
