New Supreme Court judge named

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has appointed Sheilah Martin to the Supreme Court of Canada.

Martin is a Montreal native who trained in civil and common law, before pursuing her career as a lawyer and judge in Alberta.

She will replace Chief Justice Beverley McLachlin, who is retiring from the bench on Dec. 15.

A new chief justice is expected to be named soon.
