A Hamilton man was arrested in October for a sexual assault in the east end but since police issued his picture, at least 11 more victims have come forward. Jeffrey Alan Smallwood is now facing 12 charges of sexual assault and police suspect there may be more victims. Tonight detectives will be speaking at the Navy League of Canada Barracks with parents of kids who are part of the league because Smallwood has volunteered there recently.
On October 28th Smallwood was arrested by Hamilton police and charged with four counts of sexual assault. This afternoon police laid three more sexual assault charges against him. In total, Smallwood is facing 12 sexual assault charges stemming from as far back as 1988. He was convicted of sexually assaulting a woman in front of her baby in 2007, he was sentenced to two years in jail.
The Navy League of Canada told CHCH that Smallwood did volunteer here, but early in the 90’s. Hamilton Police say that he’s worked with children here in the last 2 years, even though he was convicted of a sexual crime in 2007.
Detectives spoke with Sea Cadet parents last night and will be meeting with Navy League cadets tonight, their children are between the ages of 8-13.
