New rules for garbage & recycling

New garbage pick-up rules take effect in Hamilton and Halton on Monday.

Hamilton is allowing homeowners to put out as many as 26 bags over the weekly one-bag limit each year. Halton has reduced the number of bags you can put out every other week from 6 to 3. The Region and the City has sent out tags for people to put out additional bags and containers beyond the limit. The tags replace amnesty weeks so you can put extra garbage out any week of the year. In Hamilton, yard waste and bulk items like furniture will now be collected each week. For Halton, a wider range of items is now also accepted in blue boxes.
