New record Ontario grape crop

The Grape Growers of Ontario are celebrating a record harvest.

In 2013, over 79,000 tonnes of grapes were harvested, with a value of $99.7 million. That would make enough wine to cover over 1,100 Olympic ice rinks.

It was also a good year for ice wine production. To make ice wine, grapes need to be frozen on the vine, and this winter’s icy weather made for ideal conditions.
