New protests at Enbridge Line 9

A group of residents have blocked an exposed section of Enbridge’s Line 9 pipeline in Burlington.
Protestors gathered around 7:30 this morning and plan to continue the blockade for at least 12 hours. That represents the 12,000 anomalies Enbridge has reported to exist on the line. Enbridge has made over 300 maintenance digs along the line from July to December last year; the vast majority were for cracks.
Protestor Danielle Boissoneau: “They’re trying to think that fixing one or two of these anomalies that people are going to forget about the other 12,000 anomalies. They are only scheduled to fix 400 of the integrity digs that they have scheduled, but that doesn’t even come close to the things that are going on with that line.”
The protesters call the integrity digs a band-aid solution to a bigger problem.
Last June, a group of protesters shut down construction at an Enbridge pump station in Flamborough. They say Line 9 puts communities at risk and threatens water supplies.
