TTC riders using the subway at Union Station may notice a lot more space on the platforms.

That’s because the second platform is now open at the station. Commuters travelling up the University portion of the loop will still use the old platform, but those heading up Yonge will use the new one.

Riders say the new platform will make their morning commute much smoother.

“I’m actually quite surprised. There is more room. It’s a little confusing the first day, I guess. I think it’s very promising.”

“Before, I got confused ’cause there was no real indication of which way the train was going. So now it’s really easy, you just get on the train when you need to.”

The TTC says there will be plenty of signage and staff on hand to offer direction and limit confusion.

The new platform is one part of the $137 million revitalization of Union Station. More than 100,000 transit riders flow through the station each day.
