New Oakville development using geo-exchange tech to reduce carbon footprint

A new development in Oakville will be using the temperature deep below the earth’s surface to moderate heating and cooling in its buildings.

Crews are currently boring dozens of holes, hundreds of feet into the ground to make that happen.

A company called Creative Energy is putting in an environmentally-friendly heating and cooling system in the North Oak condo development in Oakville.

The work is being done just off of Trafalgar Rd. and they’re drilling 800-foot boreholes down into the earth. It’s called geo-exchange technology and it will help reduce the development’s carbon footprint by relying less on natural gas.

This is the first time the developer, Minto Communities, has used geo-exchange technology.

“The community energy direction system at North Oak will reduce carbon emissions by 95% for space heating at approximately 75 per cent overall for the project.”

The first two energy-efficient towers will house 380 suites from 500 to about 1,300 square-feet.

Construction is expected to wrap up in 2025.
