New license needed for Florida snowbirds

A heads-up if you plan to do any driving in Florida this winter.

Canadians now need to have an international driving permit, in addition to a valid drivers license. The new law, which went into effect in January, is supposed to make it easier for police in Florida to interpret international drivers licenses. You can get a permit from the CAA. The cost is $25, and it’s good for one year. The big problem is really with foreign language drivers licenses, and state legislators are working on revising the law to exempt English-language licenses. But the proposed changes wouldn’t take effect until the summer.
