The newest police recruits were honoured this afternoon in a special ceremony at Niagara Police Headquarters.

A total of six police dogs officially graduated from training and are ready to serve and protect. Two of the graduates are from Niagara, the others will be working in Buffalo, Amherst, and Kawartha Lakes. One of the Niagara dogs, Havoc, has been named valedictorian after he helped make an arrest the day before graduation.

“The suspect fled from a stolen vehicle in Niagara Falls and he was seen in field nearby by the front line officers. So were called to the area and we tracked his human odour and we located him in the tree line. It was pretty good for his first time.”

Today’s graduates have been trained to detect and follow human scent, track fleeing suspects, protect their handlers as well as detect and collect evidence.
