New Judge in Tim Bosma case

There’s a new judge presiding over a high profile murder case. After 2 days of pre-trial arguments in the Tim Bosma case, Justice Stephen Glithero fell ill and went to hospital. A week later he was back at court, but only to recuse himself. He’s not sure what his medical issue is, he’s undergoing tests, but he doesn’t want to risk another delay. So Justice Andrew Goodman has now taken over the pretrial, and he will also preside over the trial, which is still expected to begin January 18th.

In the pre-trial, lawyers argue over how the murder trial will unfold; they could, for example, ask to have the trial in another city, or ask to have separate trials for Millard and Smich. Timing is complicated, because more trials will follow. Both men are also accused of killing a young Toronto woman, Laura Babcock; and Millard will stand trial for the death of his father, which was originally thought to have been a suicide.

Pre-trial arguments, which are protected by a publication ban, will continue on Thursday.
