New COVID-19 cases at Hamilton schools

The Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board reported five new cases of COVID-19 within its schools on Monday.

A staff member at Cathy Wever Elementary School, Queensdale Elementary School and Allan A. Greenleaf Elementary School have tested positive for the virus.

There is one student case each at Orchard Park Secondary School and Westdale Secondary School.

There were 57 cases of COVID-19 in students, staff and those doing remote learning last month.

The board resumed in-school learning on Feb. 8.

An outbreak was declared at A.M. Cunningham Elementary School on Feb. 17 after two students tested positive for the virus. The outbreak was declared over on Feb. 27.

Meanwhile, the Catholic board is dealing with an outbreak at St. Eugene Catholic Elementary School, declared on Feb. 23. Two staff members and one student have tested positive for the virus.

The Hamilton-Wentworth Catholic District School Board reported two student cases and one probable staff case on Monday.
