New Chief elected in Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation

The band members of the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation elected a new Chief over the weekend following the departure of former Chief Stacey LaForme.
Claire Sault was elected Saturday, earning just 9 votes more than her rival Margaret Sault after 493 ballots were cast.
The newly elected Chief previously served on the MCFN Council as the lead of inclusive propensity, economic growth and job creation.

Former Chief LaForme announced his retirement from politics on Saturday following a 24-year long career in politics, the last eight of which he served as Chief.
Tributes to LaForme came pouring in from neighbouring cities and their leaders following the announcement of his retirement, thanking him for his years of leadership and guidance.

The swearing in ceremony for the new Chief is expected to take place on Friday.
