(Updated) Less than three weeks after a magnitude 7.8 earthquake devasted Nepal, the same area has been rocked today by another earthquake — and the number of casualties is rising.

The magnitude 7.3 quake struck at the noon hour, about 83 kilometres east of the capitol of Kathmandu in a remote area near the Chinese border. The quake registered in Bangladesh, New Delhi and caused rock slides in Tibet.

The death toll stands at 42 with over 1100 injured in this morning’s quake, according to the Nepalese government. This is a nation still traumatized by the April 25th magnitude 7.8 quake that killed over 8,000 people.

Robert Neufeld, manager of emergency response communications for World Vision has been speaking with his colleagues in nepal on the ground. He told CHCH News how the latest quake might hamper the badly needed humanitarian aid after the April 25th quake. “Through our efforts now are to assess the damage to look back from what we’ve seen and the needs out there.”

“Remember 17 days ago people lost their homes. They lost everything they own. That situation now is going to be magnified. This is going to make things far worse.”

The government had said the damage from the first quake would cost billions to repair.
