Neighbour gets senior to safety during St. Catharines fire

An elderly resident is going to be okay thanks to the fast actions of her neighbour following a house fire in St. Catharines.
Emergency crews were called the home on Roxborough Crt. just before 7 p.m.
“I smelled fire so I walked around my house first and then I noticed that it was our next door neighbour,” said Pastor Eduardo Cruz, who lives next door.
Cruz said his elderly neighbour is hard of hearing so he jumped into action to ensure she was safe. “We helped her to come down the stairs,” he said. “And then moved her out of the way so the fire department could have access to the house.”
Crews managed to knock the blaze down in less than 10 minutes.
Cruz said he believes the fire started in the bathroom upstairs.
The senior was checked out by paramedics and did not suffer any injuries.
