For the first time in Canadian history, an Indigenous person has been elected premier of a province.

Manitoba NDP leader Wab Kinew sailed to victory last night – winning a majority government and defeating the Progressive Conservatives that had been in power for two terms.

This was Kinews’ second attempt at the premier’s chair – this time leading his party to double their seat count in the legislature. And while celebratory, Kinew didn’t waste time and talked about action, especially when it came to hot button issues like healthcare and the wanted landfill search that could lead to the discovery of two First Nations women, who were allegedly murdered.
