May 5th is the National Day of Awareness for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls.

Today is a day to remember and raise awareness about the Indigenous women and girls who experience violence, those who go missing, and those who are murdered.

The Hamilton Regional Native Centre on Ottawa Street hung red dresses outside representing real women and girls in our community who are currently missing.

Red Dress Day started in 2010 after a powerful project by Metis artist Jaime Black who used red dresses to draw attention to the continuing crisis.
