National Child Day in Hamilton

It’s National Child Day, and to mark it Wesley Urban Ministries in Hamilton celebrated with a lunch, some magic and music.
Today the crowd was treated to music from Turkey Rhubarb, a performance from Calvin the Magician and even Chinese fan dancing. The UN initiative says it’s a perfect time for young Canadians to shape their own future.
Countless families rely on Wesley Urban Ministries for support and a sense of community, including Delicia Sorbito, a mother of 3 who says the centre helps her children thrive in the classroom as well. “I think it makes them confident.”
“My daughter’s at school in kindergarten, and she got a very good report. The teacher says she’s very good at singing songs, writing the ABCs and doing some other stuff, playing with Play-Doh, she’s getting more creative.”
Wesley Urban Ministries offers daily support to more than 1200 children, youth and adults living in poverty in Hamilton. They have over 30 programs, including housing and homeless services and newcomer services.
